Haven is a place of Help, Hope and Healing.

In Matthew 25:35-40 the bible says, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me….”

This passage of scripture serves as the biblical example of the Haven of Rest Missionary Baptist Church Family’s commitment to outreach within our community, our city, and our world. Haven of Rest offers several different outreach programs, they are a weekly food pantry, a quarterly clothing closet, assistance with utility costs through CEDA, and an annual Thanksgiving meal for the community.

Haven of Rest Food Pantry Ministry

Haven of Rest MBC in partnership with the Chicago Food Depository, operates a weekly Food Pantry. The food pantry provides groceries on a weekly basis to those who are in need. The pantry assists approximately 300 families weekly on average. The food pantry program offers everything from meats, to vegetables and fruit. It is a blessing to be able to help families during these tough economic times. The community that the church serves, is considered to be a food desert, with no grocery store within walking distance of the church. The program is literally the only opportunity that some of the community’s citizenry will have to attain fresh meats and vegetables. Our food pantry is operated by our church
members under the leadership of Mrs. Sarah Duncan. The entire Food Pantry staff is comprised of volunteers. The Food Pantry Ministry also hosts a Pre-Thanksgiving Meal annually, for those within the community to come and become an extended part of the Haven of Rest MBC family.

Clothing Ministry Offers Clothing and Soup

The Haven of Rest Clothes Closet Ministry collects gently used clothing and other essentials throughout the year, then distribute to those in need on a quarterly basis. The Clothes
Closet Ministry always offers members of the community the opportunity to sit and enjoy a warm cup of soup and a sandwich as they consider the clothing that is available for the taking. The Ministry has provided coats for Chicago’s coldest winters, and a meal for those in need. The Clothing Ministry is headed by Mr. Mark Dewberry, and operated by Haven of Rest members who volunteer their time, talents and treasures.

Heating & Electricity Assistance

Assistance with Heating & Electricity Chicago’s winters are brutally cold; however, the Haven of Rest Church has come up with a strategy to provide the residents within our community with assistance in paying their heating and electric bills. Haven of Rest in partnership with LIHEAP, offers several programs that are designed to offer relief to those who are struggling to pay their monthly bills. The program is headed by our First Lady Mrs. Jenise Dotson, along with several members of Haven of Rest who volunteer their time to help those who are in need.
